Core capability

Track hereditary conditions across generations

Build complete multi-generational family pedigrees that show exactly how genetic conditions like BRCA mutations, Huntington's disease, and cystic fibrosis are inherited. The layout engine automatically positions each node — you focus on the clinical picture.

  • Standard pedigree nomenclature (squares, circles, shading)
  • Automatic node placement — no manual positioning
  • Condition markers visible at a glance across all generations
  • Supports 3+ generation charts with complex branching

Interaction

Click any node to edit — details always in context

Every node in the pedigree is interactive. Click a person or animal to open a slide-out panel with their full details — name, date of birth, sex, conditions, and notes. Edit in place without leaving the chart view.

  • Per-node condition tracking with structured data
  • Free-text notes alongside structured fields
  • Changes reflected immediately on the chart
  • Supports both human and animal pedigrees

Consent workflows

Send consent requests — track who has shared access

Consent in genetics is a serious clinical process. Cardea Charts lets you send formal consent requests to family members, asking them to share access to their medical records. Track consent status per family member directly within the pedigree.

  • Send consent requests to any node in the pedigree
  • Track Pending / Received / Declined per family member
  • Consent audit trail built in
  • Family members receive a clear, plain-language request

Data collection

Let family members self-report their medical history

Send a structured data collection request to any family member. They complete a simple form with their medical history — no clinical account required. Responses feed directly into the pedigree, reducing admin burden on your clinical team.

  • Send requests to any family member — no account needed
  • Structured forms covering conditions, diagnoses, medications
  • Responses automatically populate the pedigree node
  • Follow-up reminders for incomplete responses

EHR integration

Bi-directional HL7 FHIR R4 sync with your hospital system

Pull patient records directly from your EHR into the pedigree. Export completed pedigrees back to your hospital system. Works with Epic, Cerner, and any FHIR R4-compliant system.

  • Import patient data from Epic, Cerner, or any FHIR R4 EHR
  • Export pedigree data back to your hospital record
  • No manual data entry — reduce transcription errors
  • Designed for real clinical integration workflows

Register your interest and let us know which EHR system you use, as this helps us prioritise integration development.
Early access registrants will be among the first to try Cardea Charts when it launches. We're committed to offering a trial period so clinical teams can evaluate the software with their existing workflows before committing. Pricing details and plan options will be shared with registrants before the public launch.
The drawing engine follows standard pedigree nomenclature used in clinical genetics, consistent with recommendations from the National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC). This includes standard symbols — squares for males, circles for females, diamonds for unknown sex — with standard shading conventions for affected, carrier, and deceased individuals. The layout engine automatically positions nodes following accepted pedigree drawing conventions.
